Dakua Maharaj: An Absolute Crowd Pleaser for All the Fans of Balakrishna
Story:
The setting is Madanaplli, a quiet village. The main aspect of the plot is a clandestine tea estate owned by Krishna Murthy, and an MLA named Thirumala Naidu (Ravi Kishan) who grows cocaine there.
When Krishna Murthy discovers what is happening at the tea estate, he confronts the MLA, endangering his family. His driver, Nanaji (Balakrishna), takes on the role of protector as he fights against Thirumala Naidu and the drug cartel led by Balwanth Singh Thakur (Bobby Deol).
As chaos unfolds, the Maharashtra police are actively searching for Nanaji, implying he may be involved in the turmoil. His past may not be as ordinary as it seems. Ultimately, the story revolves around uncovering Nanaji’s true identity, his connection with drug lords, and how the figure of the Dakua Maharaj emerges.
Performances:
- Nandamuri Balakrishna in the film proves to be a powerhouse performer. As expected, the rugged old man who is shown in the flashback reels is no other than Balakrishna from Nippu Ravva.
- Pragya Jaiswal takes maximum advantage of what is very limited screen time and Shraddha Srinath in the second half has an interesting character twist which gives the show some extra spice.
- As expected, Bobby Deol in the role of Balwanth Singh Thakur has strong screen presence, but again character has no real depth with originality.
Supporting cast such as Makarand Deshpande, Sachin Khedekar, and Ravi Kale put in commendable performances, whereas Urvashi Rautela’s character has room for improvement.
Technical Aspects:
The music by Thaman sometimes overpowers the songs and action sequences. The cinematographer, Vijay Karthik, excels in capturing stunning shots and colors. However, Bobby’s screenplay lacks originality and overly emphasizes Balakrishna’s persona, leaving action fans disappointed in the plot.
The dialogues stand out compared to the rest of the film and deliver effectively. However, the songs lack the same energy as the scores. Overall, the film transforms into a regional piece aimed at a neo audience, but the plot remains generic and repetitive, failing to captivate a broader audience.
Verdict:
While Dakua Maharaj has its audience, it is primarily enjoyed for its mass elements. However, due to a lack of substance, it struggles to hold the attention of the average viewer, as the narrative revolves around a tried-and-true formula. Nevertheless, fans will likely remember it for Balayya’s performance.
